Google releases new software Google Desktop with extra facilities to retrieve data, block secure pages and easy searching. Even though Google faces intense competition from its rival, Google maintains to keep pace with them.

Searching Microsoft office documents, images, Internet browsing and e-mailing will be taking a new turn as The Mountain View, California company has launched new PC application software, Google Desktop. Google Desktop facilitates searching videos, music files, PDFs and Internet surfing. It can search web history in some web browsers including Firefox.

It is extra facilitated with a software developers kit (SDK). Google has its plug-in in its Trillian chat software that helps search conversation. In this new software, outside users can build their own search plug-in.

Mr. Nikhil Bhatla, a Google product manager stated that the Google Desktop stores a copy of everything you browse. This is extremely helpful for the users as the new software is able to retrieve the last document on which the user was working in case the current application crashes.

This new software can retrieve documents that a user set with a privacy code. As a result security is a main concern in the full version of this software. Those password protected word files and excel files are avoided to index in its final products as said by Mr. Bhatla. The responsibility of Google to periodically update the software initially to prevent personal data from hackers is waived due to the advancement of the new software as it is enabled with systems to block secure web pages from accessing.

Yahoo and Microsoft’s MSN are among the top rival companies of Google. They have also recently launched similar software. Hence, Google is facing a tough competition with a lot many rival companies in the consumer desktop market.

The task is to bag the attention of the surfers. Every search companies tries to sustain their users as well as to lock new users with their desktop services so that they could get more search applications done with their search engine. This in hand enhances the possibility to make more advertising sales that worth billion dollars.

According to Mr. Bhatla there is still no any plan to attach advertisement to the user’s personal information by Google. Google is still working to keep pace with its rival companies. Yahoo licenses technology from X1 Technologies which its software let people to narrow their search result. Google is aware of how to improve the search tools in the desktop.
